How to use Samsung Maintenance mode before a repair

Prepare your Galaxy for repair with Maintenance mode, a backup and the steps to return to your normal account.

Handing over a phone for repair can mean handing over the device that holds your photos, messages and accounts. Samsung’s Maintenance mode creates a separate repair environment that hides your personal data.

Back up before you start

Make a backup and check that it has completed before sending the device away. Maintenance mode protects access to your data; a backup gives you a recovery route if the repair involves a reset or replacement hardware. Follow the repair provider’s preparation instructions too.

Enable Maintenance mode

  1. Open Settings and look under Device care or Battery and device care.
  2. Choose Maintenance mode.
  3. Follow the backup and screen-lock prompts, then turn it on.
  4. Follow the restart prompt to enter the repair environment.

You can also find the feature through Samsung Members → Support → Maintenance mode on supported devices.

After the repair

Open the Maintenance mode notification, select Exit and authenticate with your screen lock. The device restarts into your normal account.

Before handing it over

Keep your backup details and repair reference somewhere you can reach without this phone. Check the screen shows Maintenance mode has started, rather than assuming that tapping the setting finished the process.
